Christopher Hyland commissions weaves textiles primarily in Europe to designs created by the firm or especially chosen from archives and other sources that result in exclusive Christopher Hyland designs only available from the firm.
The Christopher Hyland collection includes approximately 24,000 shop keeping units including silk, wool, cotton, viscous, and blended fiber textiles --from plains to damask, brocades, and numerous other types of textiles. Design inspiration is very broad, from the medieval through most design periods to the present. Noteworthy collections are the 18th century damask designs which would inspire Thomas Jefferson, the robust family and great room collections that would comfort the most active skier, hunter or rider and the contemporary collection that heartens those of us who believe modern design can be elegant and inviting. The Christopher Hyland collection of trimmings is superb and coordinates with the many collections of fabric. On the simpler end there are robust trimmings beautifully paired with an exclusive collection of large scaled Christopher Hyland 100% wool tartans.
Other trims seamlessly enhance textiles originally made from Marie Antoinette’s sister for her spectacular residence at Caserta, the second largest palace in Europe.
All of the above combined with sheers, printed floral chintzes, and several thousand silk taffetas in several dozen qualities makes the Christopher Hyland collection of textiles one of the most extensive high-end collections in the world. It is certainly the largest collection of fine Italian woven residential textiles in the world. Many people believe that the collection is in many ways without peer.
